In a world of endless notifications, we’ve forgotten what it means to be truly present. Disconnect is an invitation — and a challenge — to step away from screens, dopamine loops, and constant noise, and to come back to yourself.
A Return to Wonder
In a country characterized by magical realism, your disconnect retreat will begin in Medellin, a city that has transformed its troubled past into a story of resilience, creativity, and urban renewal. Here you'll begin to disconnect from the habits of tech and consumer culture as you visit Comuna 13. This was once among the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world, where a community rose up, rejected fear, cast out armed groups, and rebuilt itself through art, resilience, and human connection. As you walk its vibrant streets, you’ll be reminded that transformation begins with a decision. Just as Comuna 13 chose life over chaos, this retreat invites you to cast out the noise and distractions of a digitized age and to choose presence, clarity, and connection.
From Medellín, you will journey to El Chocó, one of Colombia’s truly wild frontiers, where virgin forest tumbles into the Pacific Ocean — raw, unspoiled, and sacred. Here, the true luxury is the place itself. Don’t expect infinity pools or cocktails on the beach; expect the ocean and jungle, the power of the Pacific coast, the peace of ancient trees, and the deep stillness that modern life so often drowns out. Without phones, laptops, or digital distractions, you will reconnect to nature, savor the forgotten luxury of silence, and have conversations with like-minded travelers. Whether hiking through the jungle, floating downriver in a wooden canoe, joining guided meditations, or gathering around a beach bonfire under the stars, you'll rediscover that age of innocence before the digital world took over our lives — an age like childhood itself, where the magical is real, and the real is everywhere. If you're seeking an adventure reset, a return to something raw, human, and unscripted, this retreat is for you.

Marco does not claim to be a guru. He is a man on his own journey — committed to walking the path of transformation alongside others, not above them. His approach blends practical wisdom with spiritual exploration, offering a grounded, honest space for those seeking realignment in an increasingly noisy world. Whether through his words, workshops, or vibrant online presence, Marco invites others to listen more deeply, live more authentically, and rediscover the wonder that modern life often hides.
Drawn to Colombia’s spirit of resilience, raw beauty, and deep-rooted connection to nature, Marco chose it as the perfect setting for this retreat — a place where transformation feels not only possible, but inevitable.
Once you arrive in Medellin, Alithea will provide transportation from the airport to your hotel. And at 5:00 pm, your disconnect retreat will begin. You'll leave your electronics in your room and head to the hotel rooftop to meet your fellow travelers and get your first taste of how disconnecting from the digital world means reconnecting to everything else.
After a brief orientation you'll share your first Colombian meal with the group. The evening will conclude with a walking introduction to the Laureles neighborhood.
This morning after breakfast on your hotel terrace, you'll head out and break into small groups for a morning spent with locals. You'll see how a focus on community overturned cycles of poverty, paramilitary presence, and drugs to establish a neighborhood defined by color, street art, resilience, and a positive vision for life in face of difficulty.
For lunch this afternoon, you'll dine in a family's home, for an insider's peek into Comuna 13. Unlike eating in a restaurant, dining in the homes of locals reflects a connection to people and place where a simple meal is a break from habits of consumerism and an invitation to participate in hospitality and tradition.
After some free time this afternoon, you'll regroup for dinner followed by an evening dedicated to learning Colombian dance. From salsa to merengue, dancing in Colombia is more than a series of memorized steps, it's a way of life, a shared sense of improvisation and the joy of living in the present.
Departing Medellin for the Pacific Coast, today's focus will not simply be arriving in one of the most remote and untouched parts of Colombia, but a celebration of the journey itself. After landing in Nuquí you'll learn why our minimalist packing list required a waterproof bag. Roads in this region give way to the unpaved pathways of the ocean and communities connected by footpaths and familiarity.
Your boat's first stop today will be Coquí, a town located between the jungle and the sea where your local host will arrange a visit with local school children and give you a taste of the cuisine that reflects this region's unique Afro-Colombian culture.
Continuing by boat, you'll follow the coastline southwest to Punta Brava where you'll check into your eco-friendly jungle lodge perched atop a point where ocean views are easily enjoyed while hanging in the hammock.
After time to explore the lodge and pathways to the beach, you'll regroup for a disconnect reflection led by Marco Williams followed by dinner and a bonfire on the beach.
Your first full day on the coast of El Chocó will immerse you in the natural rhythms of coastal life. Today your focus will be your immediate ocean and jungle surroundings.
After breakfast this morning, you'll have time for group or individual reflection before re-embarking on a whale watching expedition. There are no ports or protected harbors in this part of Chocó, so you'll need your wits, waterproof gear, and sure-footed-strength each time you board. With a little luck and perseverance, we'll see the majesty of humpback whales and admire the untouched beauty of boating around the coast.
Returning to shore in time for lunch, the later afternoon will be yours to stroll, swim, or hike to nearby beaches. In the late afternoon, you'll return to the jungle with an indigenous guide for an introduction to the local plants used to make tea.
Today you'll join your guide, Pedro, for a trek that will take us along a long ridge much deeper into the jungle.
In the late morning, you'll arrive at the banks of the Arusicito river where you'll meet your local guides and float down the river in wooden dugout canoes. The indigenous have used these hollowed out wooden canoes for millennia, and as you float down river you might catch site of small communities living far off grid.
Arriving back at the coast around noon, you'll slack your thirst with a fresh coconut before returning to your Punta Brava hotel for lunch and a free afternoon.
This evening you'll regroup for a jagua body painting workshop. This pigment is extracted from the the jagua fruit and has been used for body painting and medicinal purposes for centuries.
Your last full day in El Chocó will provide time to reflect and observe. After breakfast, you'll return to the ocean for a morning spent snorkeling and observing the abundance of life that thrives just below the surface. A metaphor for the purpose of this retreat, while floating in the water or struggling against the waves, outer voices are quieted and time is given to focus on the aspects of life that give rootedness in storms and color and vibrancy to every passing moment.
After lunch this afternoon, you'll have an hour for silence to listen to the constant music of the jungle, to observe the paths that are never the same twice, and to participate in the vibrancy of the natural world that offers both stillness and life.
Before dinner this evening, Marco Williams will lead a final reflection on the themes of connection through disconnection, silence, intentionality, community, and solitude.
After an early breakfast, you'll battle the waves to re-embark on a boat journey back to Nuquí. The goal of today's journey will be to return to urban life without leaving the stillness and strength of the ocean and jungle behind.
You'll arrive in Medellin in the early afternoon. But no place is ever the same twice. As you return to the neighborhood where you started, what was unknown when your journey began, will now be familiar, and what was familiar may now feel out of place.
At dinner this evening, you'll celebrate with those who have completed not only this physically intense journey but also those who have had the courage to see the world without the veil of screen or digital distractions.
Every end is also a beginning and every beginning is an end. There are no activities scheduled for today but your Alithea guide will help arrange transport to the airport or to wherever the next leg of your journey leads.

This is very physical experience in a remote part of Colombia. Expect uneven terrain, bumpy boat rides, muddy trails, and torrential downpours. If you are unsteady on your feet or and can't hike in the heat for 2 hours then you will need substantial preparation. If you're expecting an all-inclusive resort that requires no effort or physical fitness on your part, then this is not for you.
Although no vaccinations are required for entry to Colombia from the United States, due to Chocó’s hot, humid, rainforest environment it is advisable to get vaccinated against yellow fever, hepatitis A, and typhoid, and to consider malaria prevention medication.
